Time flies! baby Eli is already 9 months old. He was a hand full and I had a hard time finding time to paint. Now he is older and he can entertain himself better so I prepare a little area in my art studio so he can play while I work.

I Finish my last commission and I decided to take a break from them.

I have a new passion for abstract art. The colors, lines and textures are very attractive to me. I finished a triptych that I am very pleased with. Using my favorite colors and some texture with acrylic modeling paste.

The vase in the background gave me some inspiration

You can see the texture the modeling paste gave to the painting.

Everybody asked me if I used wood (some people even touch the painting) but it's just regular stretched canvas.

I have been invited to some art shows and festivals and a really want to do it. My problem is that my husband went back to school and he can't help me anymore with the kids on Saturday. For those new to my blog, I have 4 kids and my 9 month old will not stay with anybody! he cries so much when I'm not with him that it's impossible for me to leave him with anybody.

I hope I can find a solution soon so I can do these festivals.

Introducing baby Eli

Baby Eli Edwin Whitney was born at home on April 3, 2011 at 9:29am.

He weighed 8lbs 14oz and measured 21 in. He was our biggest baby by over a pound.

I had a wonderful water birth and for the first time one of our babies was born into daddy’s loving hands.

For 10 days leading up to the birth I had been experiencing prodromal labor. So when contractions started again on Saturday night I didn’t pay too much attention to them; I was convinced it was more of the same.

I lay down, walked, drank some wine and finally got in the warm bath tub to chase them away so I could sleep. The contractions did go away for around 45 minutes so I went to bed.

But at 11pm though they started again, the same tightening in the back and belly but this time they were all lasting nearly a minute (unlike the “fake” ones that were 35 seconds long). These contractions were irregular so I was a little confused.

At 2:30 I woke Eric up and I told him I was having contractions and they were not going away. They were coming every 10, 5, 2 and again 10 minutes apart. He filled up the birthing pool and I relaxed there. All the sudden I notice I didn’t have a contraction for 20 minutes so I got disappointed. Then I got a contraction that lasted 1:30 min and it was very strong. I labored in the pool for a while wondering if this was the real deal. Eric wanted to call the midwife, but I kept pushing it off. I was afraid that if she showed up she would tell me that I was just going through more prodromal labor and that I was only a 2 dilation. I had told Eric to call her around 6 but we actually called her at 7am. Eric explained the situation and Kathy, my midwife, said that she would come and check things out and if it wasn’t the real deal she could go home. We agreed and she arrived at 7:45am with all her gear.

She checked my vitals and then she checked me and gave me the best news I had heard in a long time, “You are dilated to a stretchy 8.” Wow I was so excited. It was game time from then on out I was focused, concentrated, and ready to work. She also said that if the baby wasn’t in a very odd position I would have had the baby already so she sent me to do some squatting and sitting on the exercise ball while they were filling up the birthing pool again.

My contractions now were very painful and coming every 3 minutes.

I got in the birthing pool and one of the midwives was pouring warm water on my back, which felt very good (I was kneeling and leaning forward over the edge of the pool).

Then I decided to push. I felt a pop and Eric said he saw a cloud coming out. They asked me if my water broke but I wasn’t very sure about it.

I felt something different in one of my pushes but the baby wasn’t coming out so I decided to switch the leg I was bending and I pushed again, it felt like the baby went down. I got excited but then I felt as if somebody was pushing the baby back inside and I was confused and in pain.

The baby was coming out with his hand over his head so the midwife was trying to pull the arm down. As the midwife guided me to squat down deeper I got a really hard push and the baby came out. I didn’t wait for a contraction to push. I did it with all my might because I really wanted to be over with it and baby Eli came out. I flipped position very quick as I caught my baby under the water and sat down back against the side. It felt so good holding my baby. I kissed him and told him that I love him. I patted his back and he cried.

Eric came to my side and we cried of joy. The girls were there; they saw their little brother being born and were overjoyed. Grace said “I though being born was going to be disgusting but it wasn’t!”

God is good and we feel so blessed.

Getting use to change

I know, I neglected my blog again but I have been working non stop on commission. As soon as one ends another begins, actually right now I am working on three. These are some of the ones I already finished and delivered.

Another reason for my absence is that I stopped homeschooling and I needed time to adapt to the new situation. I used to blog and work at night but now I wake up early. My daughters LOVE school! I am so excited about that.

But I left the best for last. I am pregnant!!! we are so excited Number 4 will arrive around April 5th.

I miss all my friends in bloggerland, I hope I didn't lose many of you with my absence.

Renegade Craft Fair

I had a great time on vacation and now I am back and with all my batteries charged.
The day after I returned from Florida (our vacation spot) I went, with my friend Jennifer Dedonato, to "The Renegade Craft Fair" in Austin, TX. It was an awesome time, Etsy was present and I came back very inspired not only with all the crafts but also with the great ideas to show art and booths.

My New Sewing Corner and I met another blogger!

In my new house my studio is bigger so I made a sewing corner. Sewing is another passion of mine, I like all kind of crafts!
I had all that fabric in boxes underneath my desk and now I am finally be able to chose what I am going to use without digging in the boxes and making a mess.
Yay!

Now changing the subject, I am amazed of how little the world is. I went to a women's retreat organized by my church at Round Top Texas. There I helped with the worship, playing my guitar and singing. The worship leader knows I am an artist so she sent me to her aunts folk art shop, her name is Sherry Green Peck and then I realized she is also a blogger and she knew Mystele too. It was so much fun!
I bet I will end up meeting more of you girls!

Art Festival Disaster

The morning started pretty good. I woke up early and very excited about the Art festival. Jennifer came early to pick me up and we saw a double rainbow in the sky. The weather wasn't hot nor cold. I thought it was going to be a perfect day.
As we were getting there, the rain started and it got worst when we were setting up the tent.
My tent is not water proof so it was raining inside too. The rain stopped and the wind begun. We were very scared because the tent walls kept shaking. We were doing our best to secure it but finally the whole thing came tumbling down.

Mitch Cohen, the organizer, offered to give us another tent. He is such a great person and we didn't want to upset him but after much deliberation we decided to leave the show. He was very nice about it.

After we finished packing we went to have lunch and then we saw the festival. I loved the art there, one of my favorites is this one. Her name is Gabriela Monterroso. She is not only very talented and does a great job with texture and color, she is also very sweet.
As we were leaving we notice the broken tent had a tag. Our artist neighbors wanted to raise some money to pay the fee for our booth. But I had good news for you guys, as the tent was going down I made a couple of sales and I got the money booth fee back and enough money to get me another tent, this time I am going to get a better one. (we were there for just 2 hours)

Art Festival

For the first time I spent 3 days by myself. My husband and daughters went to visit grandma while I stayed home and paint for the "Cross Creek Ranch Fine Arts Festival" It was so weird to be alone, I missed my family so much. I got a lot done though and when they came back I notice my daughters appreciating me more.
Below you can see some of the pieces I made.

Working on pendants and new video

I have many things to do this month. I had big commissions and an art festival on April 10th. While I rest my eyes from the commissions, I am making pretty things for the festival, like this pendants.
I stopped making videos because it was very hard to do it with my camera, but now I got a flip video camera and it is very easy. I notice it is not very good focusing but I will learn to use it better.
Well, I made a video tutorial of "How to make scrabble tile pendants" with information I gather here and there. I didn't buy a tutorial for this one, just trial and error and a little research.

I finally organized my studio.

Since I moved I have been working so much, not on painting but in the house and with my daughters. This year my daughters Grace (6) and Abby (4) started home schooling all the subjects (I am homeschooling 3 girls now) so I have been getting used to the new curriculum and I didn't have much time for art.

But that is history, I am now officially on art business. I am working on 3 commissions and on April 10 I will be on an art show.

I am so excited I finally organized my studio. I feel like painting now.

I also got a flip video camera so I can make videos again.

I hope you start coming back to my blog, it was abandoned for a while but I am here again!

I found my house and I am moving.

I found a house! and it is beautiful. I am moving this Friday, I already packed all my art supplies and we are making a lot of progress with the packing.

I was trying to make the pastel video but I had some technical problems that I couldn't fix before the move.

I have some commissions that I have to make and am very excited about them. I will be showing them to you.

I am excited that I finish with the house hunt and that I will be painting more I miss it and I miss you very much.

I know, I know I haven't post in ages. I feel bad about it.
I couldn't post this before because I needed to talk to some people, I didn't want them to find this out on my blog.
I am moving again and I am excited about it. We rent where we live, it is an amazing neighbourhood but we want to own our own house. We are going to be leaving "The Heights" it is too expensive to buy the house I like here.
We are spending a lot of time looking for our next home and I haven't been painting. I will make the pastel video, I need to do it.
Looking for a house can be exciting but also exhausting and frustrating.
Thank you so much to all my online friends, I have been finding you on my facebook too and it is fun to see your families.
I am planing to have a BIG moving sale on eBay, I will keep you posted.

Playing with pastels

The first time I use pastels was when I was 10 years old. I use to go to a little atelier where classes were separated by ages, for some reason that I don't remember I end up with older people. I learn charcoal and I play with some pastels for a while (the younger classes were using pencil and watercolor)
I loved the texture at that time. About 2 years ago my husband gave me an art case full of acrylics, gouache, pastels and art pencils, the acrylics were good but I couldn't make the pastels work for me. I research and I was using a very bad quality so I bought some studio quality pastels and I was amazed by the difference.
She is the result of my playing with soft pastels. This is not my usual style as I have to look at a picture to get the right color and light. I am trying different kind of papers too and it makes a big difference too. I am liking smooth paper better than the one made for pastels.
I am going to be reading more about this beautiful medium that I rediscover and sharing my findings in a future post. If anybody is interested in me making a video about it leave me a comment.

White Linen Night and another Frida

White Linen Night was great! I met great people, I had good sales and fun. We had A LOT of people coming to this event. It was very hard to find a place to park even though they have shuttles to drive people around.
There are others places that I was invited to show my work but I don't have enough paintings. Painting now would be only for some gifts I have to give and I think it is going to take the rest of the month to finish them.
Some members of my family are fans of my art too so they want me to paint for them when I ask what they want for a birthday present and even though they tell me to take my time there are in the back of my mind and I don't like to think I have a bunch of paintings to make.
This is one of the Fridas I painted for "White Linen Night" she is sold already. It is a 6"x12" acrylic on canvas with craquelure.

Today I have to take the paintings I have left to a store here in Houston. I will take some pictures and share the address when I deliver them.

Tomorrow we have a big party here in Houston. It is called "White Linen Night" last year brought more than 30,000 visitors. It is a huge event and I am so honored to be the feature artist this year! if you are close you have to come Click here for more info
This is another Frida that I painted. "Frida with a Yellow Shawl" 6"x12" acrylic on canvas. This paintings of Frida are all based on actual pictures of her that I have in a book. I hope you like it.

I have been painting for my next art event "White Linen Night" I am very excited about it but also a little nervous. I wanted to paint more but I was having a little artist block. When that happens I paint Frida, she always brings inspiration. I painted 3 Fridas all in different styles. This one is a 6"x12" acrylic on stretched canvas and finished with craquelure. The "Arte Caliente" show was great. It was FULL of people! you couldn't even walk through it. I met many great Hispanic artist. At the end the gallery wasn't that full so I could make a video

Art Show and my babies were sick

This last 10 days I was taking care of my daughters. My 5 and 3 year old were sick and they were feeling very bad. After sleepless night and trips to the doctor today they feel good.
I am working on small new paintings that I will show you later. Now I want to share with you that I was accepted on the show "Arte Caliente" at Betz Gallery.
If you are in Houston July 18 come to enjoy some art and margaritas. I will be there :) In other news I can't believe Michael Jackson passed away. I use to be great fan. I even won a dance contest with his moves. I am going to get some of his songs on my iphone, I will make a ringtone on his memory this week.

New painting, a covered Venus

One of my favorite artist is Botticelli and I painted my rendition of "The Birth of Venus" already but I had to do it again. This one is different though.
Botticelli painted Flora (spring) welcoming Venus. Flora is about to cover Venus with a red oxide/orange cape. Well I painted Venus covering herself with that cape. I painted also the little pink flowers and I continued the painting on the sides.
This piece measures 6"x12" it is Acrylic on stretched canvas and has a crackelure effect. My prior post is sad but I am already over it. I am a strong believer that when one door closes another better opens up. So everything has a reason in life.
I am not quitting applying for shows. I will continue to do so. I know the market here is very competitive and rejection is part of the process.
I learn that The Bayou city Arts Festival, received 900 applications for only 300 spots. So I think it was a hard work for the jurors to reject artist.
Thank you for all your encouraging words, it meant a lot to me.

Rejected

After spending a week in Orlando enjoying Disney and Seaworld we decided to have a couple of quiet days on the beach.
We came down to Manasota key, a beautiful community. I can see the beach through my window. It is so beautiful...
Today is our last day here and tomorrow we are going home.
In one of my trips to the house (searching for sun screen) I couldn't help but check my email on my Ipod.
There I saw an email from "Bayou City Art Festival" titled "Jury Results"
I got really excited because I was encouraged by so many people to apply to the festival that I though I was going to be accepted, but I was rejected.
I am pretty bummed out.
I didn't think I was going to be sad if I was rejected because there are so many good things going on with my art here but I am.
Now I am going to get some rest and get ready for 17 hours of driving back home. Good night my friends.

New website, me on the newspaper and vacation time!

I am very excited today. I am leaving on a vacation to Florida and I am so ready for some relaxation! Another thing that excited me is that a local newspaper mentioned me and the fact that I am going to be a feature artist in White Linen Night on August 1. This is a big event here and I am so excited to be part of it (pinching myself) I am so thankful to Mitch Cohen, the organizer, for helping me to show my art locally

In other news MY WEBSITE IS UP, yay! I made the site in 3 days . I don't think is that great and I will be adding more things but I like the look. My husband helped me with technical stuff, thanks honey!

Not much done

I didn't work to much these days. My husband was on a trip and it is so hard to take care of the kids and work.

I finish this doll. I made it in a different way that I made my Gritty Jane. I made my pattern, I try a different way to make the face and I use a different material for the skirt but it looks so similar to the other one!

Well, I guess it will take time to make it different.

I am also working in another painting and on my website, that I think will be up tomorrow (so many, many problems with it! so frustrating)

Something really good happen this week. I am going to be the feature artist of August "First Saturday Arts Market" and they put one of my paintings on the postcards.

Arts Market, a painting and changing store

I can finally blog, yay! I had a very busy weekend and it was hard to start the week.

The art fair was good but very hot, my goodness I got a tan and I wasn't exposed to the sun that much.

The arts market wasn't that populated, some people believed the swine flu was the reason. I can't complaint because I had good sales.

This is my booth. I made new friends and my blogger friend Jennifer Dedonato was there. My mother in law came to visit and also stayed with me for some time.

I wanted to show you one of the paintings. This is "Peasant Sisters" 11"x14" with crackle finish.
The same day the Arts Market was on, the art and antique store "The Homestretch" went out of business (I was selling my paintings there) Maura, the owner gave me this beautiful book as a present. I am going to be working on more Fridas, I am very inspired.
I am going to be in another store here in Houston, but as my paintings are not there yet, I will be putting some of my paintings on Etsy until I take them physically there.

New paintings

I have been working on new paintings and here they are.

"Mary" is a big one (for me at least) it is a 15"x30" acrylic on canvas with (and according to my art book this is the right term) fine crackelure This is "Spring" and was created without sketching, I did the Mystele method, stare at the canvas until I see something. The flowers are concentric circles. 6"x12" acrylic on canvas.
Yesterday I submitted my application for the next "Bayou City Art Festival" I hope I get accepted.
I took my booth shot but I don't think I will use those panels for the festival. It will be on October so by then I will have mesh panels that are way lighter and easy to transport.

Getting ready for Yale Art Market

Today was "prints" day. I didn't have much so I took pictures of my new work got images of my old ones and I went to my favorite print place.
They are so nice there! I also had an encouraging moment while I was waiting for my prints to come out of the machine.
A very sweet man behind me asked me where I got the images I was printing and I told him I painted them. He browsed through the prints (60 of them) and ask me if he could buy a couple of them. I said yes and I gave him the still hot from the machine prints.
I love to see people reacting to my work. This happened to me before but with commissions, I should go to the print store more often.

I have 17 paintings for the Art market and I keep painting and painting (but I always think is not enough)

This is my rendition of "Antea" by Parmigianino, painted between 1531 and 1534

My version is 11"x14" Acrylic and I added a crackle effect.My husband finished the display panels and I will take some pictures later to show you.
I want to apply for the "Bayou City Art Festival" and I have to give them a booth shot so I have to work on that.

New painting, Olivia

There is a cartoon on TV called Olivia and I really like that little piggy. I painted my girl version of her.
This is a 10"x20" acrylic on canvas.
This time I started with the background and I draw the girl with my favorite Nero pencil.

I also sanded the dress to create a denim feeling. I notice it was easier to paint with a base color. I am painting a lot getting ready for "First Saturday Arts Market" next month. My husband is working on the walls for my booth. It was hard to make a decision.
I had to pick between wood panels, pegboard, metal grid, propanels, mesh panel, hardware cloth and cattle wire. I picked pegboard because I thought it will be easier to hang the paintings but now I have buyers remorse, he he it always happens to me.

Happy Easter! I hope everyone had a great time. We did our traditional egg hunt with Bible verses and candy.
I had a great day, the only bad thing is that my 9 year old daughter is feeling sick after eating too much candy :(
I watch "The Tale of Despereaux" yesterday and I loved the art. The commentaries said that they wanted to give the feeling of a work of art and they really did a great job.
I was inspired to make this little boy 6x12 canvas. Despereraux is a little mouse but I did a little boy instead and I use thread on his jacket.

Nikki from Etsy featured my Jesus pendant in her treasury, thank you so much!

And last week I forgot to share with you all that I met Jennifer DeDonato from Colorfly studio. She is so sweet! I think I have a new friend, yay.
I went to see her at First Saturday (an art market held every first Saturday of the month) I love her work! pictures don't make justice to her art, it is so good in person.
She put a picture of us on her blog.
It is the first time I met a blogger friend, it was very exciting.

Art Quilt finished!

I finally finished the art quilt!
I have been very busy because my 2 younger daughters started homeschooling and piano lessons so by the end of the day I was so tired I couldn't stay up to paint.
Today my sweet husband told me to paint as much as I want while he takes care of the girls.
So here it is, designed by Jo James from "The Cart Before The Horse". Stitched, painted and embellished by me.

My favorite girl is the Little riding hood.Jo's antiquing process is different than mine and I was freaking out while antiquing thinking I was going to ruin the painting.
I love the whole process, now I have a greater appreciation of Jo's work.

A little painting

Hi everyone! I have a very tough week, my 3 year old daughter, Abby, was sick. I slept very little taking care of her and I am so happy she is much better tonight.

I wanted to share this little 4"x6" collage painting on deep edge canvas.
In this painting I use my new favorite pencil "Nero" for Cretacolor. This pencil was recommended to me by the amazing artist Karmel Timmons (I met her at an art festival). It is a charcoal that has a little oil in it so it won't smudge so much.

This is my 4th picture in my 4th folder on my picture folder. My 4th folder are my phone pics so it is small.

Grace does not look very happy but she was. We were in a Salvadorean restaurant and she was sharing a very yummy shake with her older sister so she was bother by daddy paparazzi but as soon the picture was taken she resume shake happiness. I look kind of dorky in this picture, ha ha.

Fun Project

I wanted to show you something that I am doing between commissions.

I bought a pattern from "The Cart Before the Horse" and I am having so much fun with it.

This is a cheater quilt.

I saw all the lines with my sawing machine.Now I am very close to finish it!

I am going to take some time off from working on commissions. I have so many projects I want to do.

You can see all the paper mache boxes I bought an eternity ago but between my arm and custom orders I haven't been able to start yet.

I have so many ideas in my head!

The other day I bought a book that I really like and I wanted to share it with you if you want to learn about techniques. I first borrowed this book from the library and I like it so much that I had to buy it. "The New Artist's Manual"

Big painting finished

I finished the big painting! 30"x40" custom painting based in the famous "American Gothic"

This family has the most beautiful pets! I will not show the pictures because they are personal but now I really want a Westie!

Today my husband, my 3 girls and I went to see the Jonas Brothers concert at the Reliant stadium. I thought my girls were too Little (3, 5 and 9 years old) but they had such a great time!

Abby, my 3 year old daughter was dancing with all her might and my 5 year old didn't want to leave. My 9 year old was so excited that she kept hugging me every 10 minutes.

Grace smiling, Ashley holding her face and screaming and Abby on daddy's lap, just in case she freaks out with the screaming (after that it was all dancing for her) the picture is bad because it was dark and it was on my cell phone, but I wanted to share it anyway.

10 years with the my love and new work

I was so sick all week! it was a very bad cold. but nothing stopped me from celebrating my anniversary! February 12th I celebrated my 10th year anniversary, very romantic and emotional.
Eric wrote the highlights of every year as a poem and gave it to me when we were having dinner at "Sushi King" and I got super emotional and I couldn't stop crying. I love him so much!!!!

I have been working a lot on commissions and selling my art locally. I love working on this commissions and The Homestretch owner is so great to me but sometimes I miss selling on line.
Right now I am working on this 30"x40" painting (on my new easel, yeah) and I have 2 big ones to finish too. These are the sketches for my next 3 paintings (all big commissions) and after that I have one more and I will take a break and paint something to sell on ebay or Etsy.

News about my arm and more art

Good news, the doctor found out why my arm is hurting!
He was working once a week with my arm and after the visit I was feeling better but then the pain started to get worst just before the next visit.
I was starting to get worry but then he asked me to show him how I work on my computer and painting and there he found the problem. It is my posture! Without changing the desk I started to work with my left arm and it started to hurt too, so that was the problem.
I can start blogging and painting again without pain! my husband modified my desk and I bought a big easel. yay!
I leave you now with my "Russian Farmer Girl" a little 4x6 painting, right now available in a local store " The Homestretch" (I miss selling on line so soon I will be listing on Etsy or ebay again)

Little by little

I am not finishing paintings very fast, because I am being very careful with the pain I have in my shoulder and wrist but I try to paint everyday, at least 20 minutes and finished this Frida.
The canvas is 6"x12 and my inspiration was a picture of her in the same position taken on October 16, for that reason I named her "Frida in October"I am also working on a cheater quilt designed by "Cart Before the Horse" and it is a different technique of antiquing, very interesting.
I bought the pattern on ebay. It is a lot of work! You have to stitch all the details, but I love it.
Last week I had a hard time, not so much with pain but with thoughts.
After a very intense playing time with my daughters at the park (climbing up and down the hills, the playground, playing airplane and chasing them) next day I couldn't walk, my legs were so sore!
Somebody told me that at certain age (I am 37) your body start aching more after activities. I don't see myself old, sometimes I even feel like I am in my 20s but after that comment I started to feel old. Even when my sister asked me to send pictures of my new haircut I started focusing on the wrinkles under my eyes instead of my hair.What a waste of time! Worrying about things I cannot change! After a great conversation with my husband (he is sooo good giving advice!) Now I decided to focus on things I can change, like a good and healthy diet, exercises, building good relationships, enjoying my family and loving more.

Pain update:
I have been going to the chiropractor and he has helped me a lot with my pain. We have a little problem last week when he was trying to fix my neck and I have my face numb for a while but he fixed it again and now I am doing better. My shoulder was very bruised with all the adjusting and I am sore but I paint new paintings that I am going to post tomorrow for y'all to see.

awesome present and my pain came back

I can't believe Christmas season is gone... it went by so fast! today I put down all the lights from outside and it was kind of sad. I love Christmas!
I had such a great Christmas/birthday. I got so many presents! including a tent for my art fairs, an ipod, big tv, etc... but I got an unexpected one, and it was from Tascha!!! my mother in law got me the painting and Tascha sent me the stuffed doll. I was squealing of happiness. Thank you sooooo much Tascha (I know everybody knows who she is but HERE is her blog) The only thing that kind of made my holidays bad was the pain in my arm (it came back) and I went to 2 different doctors. The first one gave me a lot of pain medicine that make me sick, the second one adjusted me, and now I am feeling much better. I couldn't paint because of the pain. I don't know if my paint came back after working in so many paintings before the holidays or just because I gained back some weight (?)
One of my new year's resolution is to become more healthy. One of my presents was a one year subscription to a gym and a Nutrisystem plan, lets see how this work.
I was thinking about doing a video journal and making a new Youtube account to share my progress with this program. I think that will make me more accountable (is that the right word?)
Well, I will think about it.

For a while I wanted to make this scrabble tile pendants and finally I could work on them this week.

I am experimenting with Diamond Glaze and resin. I like the resin better for now. It creates less bubbles.

I really like them and today I put some of them on Etsy, I will finish listing them later.

I am so excited about Christmas!!! it is my favorite time of the year.

This year I get to stay at home and my extended family will come here.

On Christmas day is also my daughter's and my birthday so it is very special for us.

Busy Christmas season

I am sooo excited. Yesterday I finished my last commission for Christmas.
I think I had to much confidence in myself and I accepted a lot of commissions so I had to work a lot!
These paintings were made for 3 sisters.And this is what I didn't tell you in my last post. On Mistletoe Madness (the Christmas art festival) I met the owner of The Homestretch and she asked me if I wanted to have my paintings in her store.
I accepted so now my paintings will be for sale locally there.
I am very excited because her store is so beautiful and there are other artist that I really like there too.
And the best for last. My 9 year old Ashley started painting. She is very good at drawing but she didn't paint much before.
She did this "Cow on the Moon" painting, a 5x7 acrylic on canvas and she asked me to open an Etsy store for her and after reading about kid's accounts, I opened her store and she sold the painting. That girl was sooo happy!

The The art sale was very good. I am so happy!

I was a little afraid to put myself out there but after I read Heather blog I decided to do it.

I met wonderful people, got a lot of compliments, got a lot of connections and I started selling even before I wasn't even finished putting my booth together (and I went an hour earlier)

Everything was perfect, a beautiful weather, my neighbours offered me their tent and another one gave me the grid for the sides. The organizer didn't even charged me for the space!

My husband help me a lot.

There are things that I won't say yet because they have to be confirmed, but they are very exciting things!

I got really bad pictures of my booth (just a couple) so I will post one from the inside and when I get a better one I will post it.

New painting and lots of work

Today I worked sooo much! I have this last minute invitation to "Mistletoe Madness" it is an art event and a big thing here in Houston.
This is going to be the first time I do something like this and I am a little nervous but very excited too. It is going to be next Saturday from noon to 6pm.

Last month my husband put his computer and a big monitor in my studio because he needs to work extra in the evenings for a couple of months so I have less room for big projects and I had to use the kitchen.
It is crazy how long it takes the "details" like attaching wire, certificates, signing prints, packing the pendants, etc.
I finished this painting yesterday. It is my version of "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" I feel like I don't have enough to sell so I am trying to finish more pieces.

Well, I hope it doesn't rain and my tent stays in place. I still have to get things and I hope I can find them (like wire panels and hooks to hang the paintings)

I will take my camera and, if I can, I will take pictures of the event.

I am so happy and thankful! this year was so great.
I hope everyone had a great time.

This was the first year that I celebrate Thanksgiving in my house. It was so much fun! Today is also my daughter's birthday (Ashley the little artist) and she was so happy with everybody here and the presents. She appreciates everything. I am so proud of her.
I finish My Madonna and I enter her on a contest, it was all very fast. Two days ago I got an email letting me know about this contest and the dead line is on November 30, so I got a picture and submit it.
Well here she is. 15"x30" Acrylic on stretched canvas with a fine crackle effect.

Work in progress

I want to show you this work in progress. Thank you for the great comments about this drawing.
Abby wanted to be on the picture too so there she is with her favorite stuffed dog.
I think I am going to paint the background Terra cotta or rusty red.

I have problems with red if I don't mix it with another color. It doesn't cover very good (the same with brown) I was trying to find a brand that covers but I didn't have any luck yet.
A close up. I didn't finish painting the dress yet. The face is almost done. It needs a crown (golden)
I was inspired by Renaissance's artist Parmigianino "Madonna with the Long Neck"
My Madonna is different. Her eyes are open and baby Jesus is not in the picture. Also the style is different.

Working and working

These are some of the paintings and boxes I have been working.
They are (or were) for an art festival that I may not be able to attend :( but all is good, if I can"t do it this month I will go next month.

Now I think I am going to be listing these on Etsy. Ebay became so expensive! I love the bidding format but I will try Etsy.

Lollishops are going to be open soon. What is Lollishops? a juried art shop that I was accepted and I am so excited about it.

Today I draw the big painting on your right and I love the way it turned out, I hope I do a good job painting it. It is my rendition of "Madonna of the Long Neck" by Parmigianino

I am challenging myself to make more complicated paintings as I learn new techniques.

Diet update: I lost 20lbs yay! my arm doesn't hurt anymore neither my back, I think it was weight related. I feel so good!

I was kind of busy this week and I have some news. I became an USA citizen!!! afer studing hard, going to the interviews and spending a lot of money I am finally an American.

In other news, some of you know I am on a diet and I lost 15 pounds! Some things brought anxiety to my life this year. My husband changed jobs, he was working here in Houston during the week while I stayed at home in Dallas. I moved, I change church, etc.
I am reading Dr Phil books and they are working for me. I am taking pictures and I will post the before and after pics.

No new art for ebay or Etsy this week. I don't know if you notice a new link ==> "New order commissioned art..." it worked and I have so many pieces to finish before Christmas that I am not taking more commissioned art at this moment.

New Paintings

I wanted to paint so much this week! and I did.
I saw this a picture taken by Nickolas Muray of Frida and I loved the necklace and the pink bow and I wanted to paint it. So here she is. A 6"x12" canvas.Then I order assorted pretty papers from Etsy and I got it, so I made this little 5"x7" collage.

And finally this ACEO. I found ACEO size linen canvas and I bought a lot. Now expect to find more of this. I list everything on ebay.

I receive questions about commissioned work all the time so to make it easier I made a page with all the info (prices, how to order, etc) it is the link on the right side that says "NEW order commissioned art directly from me"

I received also one of my prizes from the blogs giveaways (I won two, lucky me!) from Tracey, thank you so much! I got 2 vintage journals, one french cookbook and assorted vintage things. I am already using one of the journals to write about my weights loss (yeah, I am on a diet again)

Art festival and a new painting

Thank you so much for the sweet comments about my daughters drawings!! she is so encourage by y'all. She read them all and was so excited!

Yesterday we went to the "Bayou City Art Festival" downtown Houston and it was awesome.

There were many great artist but I was specially impress with 4 of them that I will share with you later. I think each one deserves a blog entry, they let me take pictures so I will post them.

After I came I needed to paint, so I made this 8x10 acrylic painting on canvas board. It has a crackle finish. I will be auctioning it tomorrow on ebay. ***update NOW on ebay***

The Doll and my daughter's drawing

I am so happy. I have Internet again! I could finish my dollie from Jane Desrosier cloth and clay workshop.
All the videos were online and I didn't know what to do next so, she was there waiting to be finished. I was so tempted to guess the next step but I wait and there she is... (I haven't name her yet :s)

One day I said that my 8 year old Ashley is crazy about art too and she draws a lot. I love her drawings, I think they are great and I wanted to share 2 of them with y'all.
She draws dogs, horses and cats. These are sketches that she finished today.
I want her to paint them but she just throws them away! I am not exaggerating she make like 15 drawings a day like these.

No internet and new paintings

I am using my husband's laptop with the spring card because I don't have Internet or cable. Comcast have a problem :( and outage I think (they don't even know)

I am still working on my doll because with the lack of internet I couldn't follow the instructions online. I did my best and I am almost done.

Tonight I added some paintings to ebay (including "Happy Frida"). Tomorrow I will put another beeswaxed collage.

There is no place like home ♥
After 10 days the power returned to our home. There are places still with no power (like the art store), the streets are very messy and houses with lots of damage. Our house is good. The fence was fixed and we cleaned up a lot.

I am working on my doll from the "cloth and clay doll worshop" I really wanted to start quick, I missed a lot of days because I wasn't home. I love the course and I will show you the doll as soon as I finish.

I have some paintings to list, I am not sure if I will list them on ebay or Etsy but I want to show you one that I like very much.

Still away from home

I want to thank all the sweets emails, prayers and comments!! they bless me very much.
I am still away but my husband went to Houston to see the house. We are blessed and the house is perfect. There is not power yet and the fence got knock out but we didn't have water damage or any problems on the roof (like many many others)

I found in my purse a little flash card with pictures I took before leaving. This one with all the canvases I bought.I miss painting so much... Eric (my husband) is going to bring me some canvases and paint, yay!
You can see in the picture my 5 year old daughter Grace. She almost gave me a heart attack today when she decided to leave the house I was visiting and walk to my MIL's house by herself because she needed a Kleenex.
The house was FULL of kids (11) and it was easy not to notice her, I felt so bad! Grace is good now, I have to explain many things to her.
I hope to be posting some new paintings soon, my next one should be "Lost and Found"

Yikes Ike!

We voluntarily evacuate Houston because hurricane Ike. We left early to avoid traffic.
So we are in Dallas, safe and ready to visit friends and to hung out with family.

Interview and a dead computer

It was so much fun! It was hard to chose the story or moment that I knew I love art.
For me was at the age of 10 and I have so many stories of how art save me for many things in life. I use to stack all my drawings under my bed, I would get scolded for that. Once a little mouse made a little nest under my bed because of the paper.

Well, changing the subject a little. I don't have my computer and I have a lot of paintings to put on ebay.
The monitor died. I went to the kitchen and when I came back the monitor was full of lines of colors, like a rainbow. I was scared I thought the hacker came back and this time killed my computer.
Now I am using my husband's laptop and it doesn't have any driver or program that I use for my pictures and scanner or listings.

And today I also want to thank toolisjewelry for including me on her treasury on Etsy, Thank you! my Frida made it there.

Butterflies!

Butterflies are so beautiful! and I was going to collage some butterflies but then I wanted to paint them.
Jane Desrosier had a great tutorial of how to create texture on her YouTube channel so I gave it a try.
I really like the way it turn out. They are both 6"x12" I am going to make a serie of painting with butterflies "Butterfly encounters"

Ashley, my 8 year old, draws so amazingly good. I need to show off her work. This year we bought a great art curriculum but one of the things that she really wanted to do is sculpting and it is not included in this year class, so I am going to sign her up for this.

I was looking at some Sandro Botticelli's paintings and I really wanted to paint this piece.

I am working on more paintings now, little by little due to my pain. My husband keeps telling me to go to the doctor, I just keep postponing it because some days are better than others.

Commissions and pain

Sorry blog readers I didn't post in a while.
Wow I was so busy this last couple of weeks. In Art I was working in some commissioned work and I also painted a piece inspired in Sandro Botticelli that I didn't finish yet but it is almost done.
I spend all weekend in a conference and getting ready for home school.
My hand/arm is not so good. I am having pain again and it feels like carpal tunnel syndrome so I will have to go to the doctor (I hope is not)
I started having this pain just after I finished some dolls so I thought it was so much sewing after pain.
It is funny, I work on this dolls and I don’t sell them. Here they are in my studio looking at me. I just like to make them.
Now It looks like the paint is dry so I will put some crackle to my Sandro Botticelli inspired painting.

Mona Lisa

This is my rendition of Mona Lisa. I painted this piece on a 9"x12" canvas paper, the painting measures 8"x10" so it can fit easily in a regular frame.
I finished the painting with crackle medium and antiquing gel.
I was taking pictures while painting and I made this little video progression of the painting.
I think tomorrow I will list the painting on eBay. I had to reboot my computer (hacker's fault) and I have to install some programs to create the listing.

We had a great vacation, so much fun! but I am ready to paint. I miss it so much.
I took paper and some watercolor pencils with me but we were gone all day so I didn't draw or paint anything. I finished my angel but it has been raining for 2 days so I couldn't take pictures.

This is my big painting. I didn't finish yet I have to put some antiquing gel and it will be done.
It measures 15"x30" and I think I will call it "The Fruit of the Spirit Angel" I collage the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control. I needed a lot of this this week :)
I had a very busy week, with family visiting, the fraud problem and my citizenship paperwork but it was a good week.
I will be leaving on vacation this week! we really need one. We are going to Florida!!!! to Disney and Sea world. Yay.
I will be blogging on the minivan, I am sure.
We have like 12 hours of driving... I love it! and my husband have to have Internet just in case something goes wrong at the office so we have a wireless card.

Naughty hacker :(

Hi everybody, I was a little absent from blogger world because someone hacked my bank account and took all the money from it so we were checking if the problem was in my computer. It was a big headache but everything will be fine.
The hacker sent us a "present" (we pay for it) an antivirus program, at least he has a sense of humor.
I am painting a big painting, that as soon as I finish I will post it.

Krissy, blocks of Art and Frida

I am so excited! I received this ACEOs from Krissy. They are so beautiful! they are on my fridge.

I also added Tascha to my collection, she sent me some stickers and I put a magnet on the back.

I am working on wood now. I have this little blocks of wood and I decided to paint them all and add beeswax and other things. I didn't finish yet because I want to apply the beeswax to the blocks at the same time and I want also to make a video of the process.

Remember my last Frida? well, I have a little oops with the winner of the auction, not drama here just nothing at all... I hope she is doing good. Frida now is SOLD

Freedom and Holocaust project

I finally finished my star for the Holocaust Project. I made it on canvas using acrylic and I glued the canvas to a heavy paper. I hope they like it.4th of July is coming and I am also studying for my citizenship so I wanted to create something with an American flag. I painted this painting on a 4x5 canvas using acrylics and crackle effect.
I LOVE USA, this country gives so many opportunities and freedom! I love living here. I know that some day God will lead us to another place but now I am enjoying here so much.

Chihuahua!

I love chihuahuas, so I made this 4"x6" painting of a girl holding a chihuahua. I finish the painting with an antique wash.
I am also almost done with my star for the holocaust project I will post the star as soon as I finish.
I didn't post about this but I was having a lot of pain in my wrist. It was my right hand so I coudn't paint or draw for a couple f days. Sometimes I have time and I do other things but when I can't paint, I just want to, he he.
Well, my girl and her chihuaha are on ebay now. I am going to finish the star now.

New Painting

This is my new painting. I did it on a black canvas. it is a 9"x12".

I put crackle effect and I made the wings with an old hymn book. My mother in law really liked my "Girl and the Moon" painting so I decided to make another girl (or angel) with a long neck. This painting is now on ebay HERE

We had a great father's day, I talked to my dad (he is in Argentina) and the girls and I gave Eric, my husband, two presents that he wanted, and a card.

One of the presents was "The finger of God" DVD. we already watched and it is awesome!

The other present was "The Power Of A Praying Parent"

And this is the card that I made for him. I put 3 pictures of our 3 girls when they were 3 months old. I send the file to a company that print cards and when I received it I wrote inside "Because you are their daddy!" then he guess who is Ashley, Grace or Abby

ATC and a little project

I am so happy, my daughter Ashley finished her school and she did great! She worked so hard!
This week I didn't do much. I was busy with school and I have a couple of headaches too :P
I have these white baby tights that my girl never used (I figured if they are uncomfortable for me it must be for her too, right?) so I remembered this little dolls that I learn to make using tights, ages ago in a show called "Utilisima" ("Very useful" in English?) in Argentina and I made some. I was going to sell them as brooches on Etsy but my girls REALLY liked them so I gave them to them.
One is missing (brown hair and blue dress) I think Grace is sleeping with her.
I finish my ATC swap and I am going to mail it on Monday (no Saturday mail here :() this one is for Krissy, mine is on it's way so I am very excited.
If somebody wants to trade cards just email me.
This one is called Create, I thought Krissy would enjoy something like this.Now I am going to paint, or draw... I don't know maybe I will create something this week after all.

Prints

I finally found a place to make my prints in Houston!
Now I feel good. I went to 3 different places before this one and the employees didn’t know how to use the scanner to replace the gray background with a white one. I was disappointed and I was starting to think that I wasn’t going to be able to have copies of my work! For that reason I wasn’t offering new prints.
The manager in this place was SO good.
I am so happy I found this place, it is more expensive but the job is better.
Ahhhh... I am in print wonderland! I hope we don’t have to move again :s

White Bunny

Some people asked me how I find time to paint having 3 children and homeschooling. I have to let you know that it is not my organization skills or me being smart with time. I just don't sleep.
I have this ability to sleep 5 or 6 hours and feel fine. My husband wakes up at 5 am so he has to go to sleep early, I put my girls in bed and I go to the studio/playroom and I paint for 2 or 3 hours.
Some days I can stay until very late but when I feel I am overdoing it I go to sleep.
Some days I paint with them during the day.
Saturdays it's my favorite day because I can sleep until late and my husband prepares breakfast.
I am doing something that it is called TQ (Time Quotient) that helps you to succeed and take advantage of every minute of your life. I didn't finished the program yet but I will let you know.

I am going to buy this Alice in Wonderland pop up book that I fell in love with and I thought why not to paint an Alice. I did this one on a 4x6 canvas.
I also put a little key on her hands. I had this scrapbooking kit from Valentine's day that comes with hearts and keys, so I used one to finish the painting.

I wanted to share the book I want to buy. I think is awesome! maybe I will paint more characters.

Lakewood Church

We are looking for a church here in Houston and this weekend we decided to try Lakewood church, the biggest congregation of the nation (very close to my house)
I though if I was wearing something comfy like my jeans capris and flip flops I was going to be comfortable and I could walk to get my daughters to all her classes and not be limping with my feet hurting. I told my husband “it is so huge that nobody will even notice us”
I was so wrong! We ask directions and an usher lead us everywhere, up to get my 8 year old, down to get my babies, to the sanctuary… all the sudden I see him talking to my husband, I couldn’t hear because the band was playing and Eric said, we are going to the front.
We were ushered to the front by different people (security), it was so surreal.
And there I was, on my everyday clothes surrounded by VERY well dress people and almost next to Joel and Victoria Osteen. Then my husband told me that I was on the screen for a long time while worshiping so next week you may see me on TV.
It was a surreal experience, but good. We liked it a lot.

Another Frida

I receive many emails asking me to paint another Frida. I was so excited that people were asking me to paint more! I went to the art store and they had this 6x12 deep edge canvases and I got them, beautiful quality. The tension is different because is longer so I had to use the little wooden keys that comes with the canvas to make it tight.
I saw this picture of Frida with a bird and I loved it. I google the picture and I coudn't find it again later. With the image in my mind I painted this Frida.
I just LOVE this cute canvases.
Every time I sell a painting I receive and email saying that the painting is much better in person, I guess I am not doing a good job with the pictures, but I am happy :) it is better than receive the other way around he he.
My Frida now is on ebay waiting to be adopted.

Party in the moon

OK, I paint another moon with another style, the story is the same.

Coming late, the girl has a party hat, she is a little tired and the moon is shinning (I put some glitter paint on the moon), just like in real life 18 years ago he he.

I just LOVE this deepedge canvases, the are so cute!
This painting doesn't have crackle or antiquing wash, I wanted to try something different.

I cannot capture the real color. In the picture the purple looks to blue but is not that blue.
Now I have this painting is on ebay.

I am receiving so many SWEET emails. I have to admit that sometimes I cry a little when I read them, they are so beautiful. I am happy to help, it brings joy to me.
I love art and I love people and if I can help, lead or encourage someone, with the little that I know, I feel so good.
I also wanted to share something with y'all. I became mono thematic, I am always talking about blogs and art. My husband it's so good with it, he can chat with me forever but the rest of the people mmmm I don't think so.
They want to talk about fashion, shopping, etc and I am dying to talk about art, supplies, ebay, blogs and youtube and when I do it they look confused or not into it. Does anybody has the same experience?

Black canvas

I found these black canvases and I wanted to try painting from black to light. It was so much fun! I loved it.

When I was young I used to go to a dance place in Argentina called "StarLight" and the logo was a moon with a profile of a man. I saw it several times in my life done by different artist, well this is my version of the moon.

The girl has a long neck, it was inspired by Modigliani’s painting "Beatrice Hastings in front of a door" I love that painting.

I have more black canvases... fun! (the girl and the moon is now on ebay)

Artists have to be smart with expenses! So when it comes to health care get cheap health insurance.

Learning to Fly

When I came to USA 7 years ago I didn't know the language, I didn't know how to drive, I couldn't work (while applying for residency you can't work), I didn't know the culture (I freaked out people trying to kiss them) it was frustrating because I was a very independent woman.

I have to learn so much, it was scary in the beginning but now I am enjoying freedom again (I learn how to drive, yay)

Today I am sharing something I made on my journal. It's a charcoal drawing that I sealed with fixatif and I paint with acrylics. I also use some pencil and print the words with my printer.

Learning to fly could be scary but when you do it it is so beautiful!

HTML issues and Frida

This is my husband working on his computer.

I was using Auctivia to list my ebay auctions and I was having some problems with it.

I wanted to have a nice looking listing without spending a lot but my HTML skills are not that good so they were terrible.

Now my husband is a computer genius, web master, software engineer but I have problems asking for help and after spending hours working on my template I decided to ask.

He came and in 3 seconds solved the problem!! I guess I need to quit trying to do everything by myself.

Now I have my rendition of Frida Kahlo on ebay and I think the listing looks much better. (thanks to my husband)

Angel series

I had 2 hard days. All my daughters got sick. I feel so sad when I see them sick, with fever and cranky. I try my best to make them feel good.
Now they are good, it just lasted a couple of days :)
I painted this angels holding my little Abby. Even though she was feeling bad we had a good time together.
I put some glitter on their wings. It is the first time I work with glitter and cracking effect and I love it! the effect cannot be show on a picture, but it is very nice.

This are a little longer, the measure 4"x6"

Now they are for sale on ebay.

My husband asked me to make some without the antique effect and use some beeswax. I have everything to do it so lets see how they turn out :D

Today, after finishing my hair and going to the gym, I started working in a "macro photo studio" I have been criticized by the Simon Cowell version of Etsy that my pictures are grey and they don't look good. So I went to this blog to change that.

Hair

I am doing my hair right now. I am tired of being a blond (fake kinda blond) I hope nobody knocks my door now because it always happens.

Every time I am:

1- doing my hair

2- taking a shower

3- decided to sleep a little more

Somebody knocks my door. But nobody comes when I finish cleaning the house and everything looks great.

Jesus the Word

In an older post I showed 3 Jesus that I made for my husband for valentines day.
One morning he woke up and said, I have an idea for a painting about Jesus and he told me the simbolism of the picture. I saw it (in my mind)and I made them.
I think a week ago I had this image on my head of a Jesus with a robe made with pages of the Bible (I have to admit that it's not an original idea) and I thought "Jesus the word" I made the robe with pages af a small Bible (gedeon) and I used the book of John
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
Jesus is looking up and this represents that HE only does what His father does (John 5:19) He also has his hands open reaching down to help us.
